At In den Doofpot, an evening out is about more than just what is on the plate. The cuisine, wine, and personal touch to the dinner are deliberately combined. At the Turfmarkt location, you can choose à la carte, a set menu, or an evening where the wine takes center stage.

Chef de Cuisine Patrick Brugman has been at the helm of the kitchen since 2014. His dishes focus on surprising flavor combinations, without making ingredients unnecessarily complicated. Depending on the occasion and the menu, various types of fish, meat, and vegetables are featured, and a vegetarian menu is also available.

Choose for yourself or let the kitchen decide

In den Doofpot offers various ways to dine. Those who prefer to choose for themselves can combine dishes from the à la carte menu. Additionally, there are multi-course menus where the kitchen determines the structure of the evening.

The dishes are relatively small, allowing multiple courses to follow one another without having to stop at just one main course. This fits well with the character of the restaurant: leisurely dining and trying different flavors throughout the evening.

Dietary requirements and preferences can be communicated when making a reservation, so that the kitchen can take them into account where possible.

Wine receives a lot of attention here.

Wine is an important part of In den Doofpot. The wine list consists of hundreds of different selections from various wine regions. In addition, the restaurant uses a Coravin system, which allows special wines to be served by the glass without immediately opening a whole bottle.

You can select a wine yourself, ask the sommelier for advice, or choose a wine pairing with the menu. Some guests even reverse the process: first selecting a special bottle and then asking the kitchen to create a matching menu around it.

Dining on the Leiden canals

A striking feature of In den Doofpot is the option to combine dinner with a boat trip.

For example, you can take a short aperitif cruise through the canals of Leiden prior to dinner. Additionally, for groups, there is a more extensive culinary cruise where a multi-course dinner is actually served on board.

The boats are covered and heated, making cruising not exclusively for warm summer evenings. In doing so, In den Doofpot combines two typically Leiden experiences: leisurely dining and viewing the city from the water.

For lunch, dinner, and groups

In addition to dinner, In den Doofpot is also open for lunch on certain days. For larger parties, there are separate group packages, and parts of the dinner, drinks, and optionally a boat trip can be put together as a package.

With this, the restaurant caters to guests who consciously desire a more elaborate dining experience, but also to birthdays, business dinners, and other occasions where food can be an important part of the evening.
