At Annie’s, the water is never far away. The restaurant is situated exactly where the Oude Rijn and Nieuwe Rijn meet and features a large floating terrace during the warmer months, where the Leiden canals literally move past your table. Boats sail by, the city comes alive all around you, and all the while you can stay here from coffee to dinner.
But Annie’s is certainly not just a summer terrace. Beneath the Commandeursbrug lie historic wharf cellars that are now part of the restaurant. As a result, the establishment has two very different faces: open and lively outside by the water, and atmospheric inside amidst the old vaults.
From coffee to late dinner
Annie’s is set up for different times of the day. You can walk in for coffee and cake, sit down for lunch, come back later for drinks, or end the day with dinner.
The menu changes with the seasons and combines accessible dishes with well-known café-restaurant classics. On the menu, you will find toasted sandwiches, burgers, satay, salads, and homemade soups, among other things. This makes Annie’s a place where different groups can easily find something they like.
You don't have to turn it into a full meal right away, either. For a drink and a snack, there are various bar bites and smaller dishes.
Having drinks by the Rhine
The terrace is an important part of Annie’s. As soon as the weather permits, you sit here directly over the water with a view of everything passing by on the Leiden canals.
For drinks, there is a choice of draft beer, wine, cocktails, and various non-alcoholic beverages. Coffee, smoothies, and iced drinks are also on the menu.
That makes Annie’s suitable for that typical moment when one drink in the late afternoon eventually turns into dinner and a whole evening at the table.
Under the historic bridge
Upon entering, one finds oneself in the vaulted spaces beneath the Commandeursbrug. The old wharf cellars give the restaurant a character that you won't easily find in a standard hospitality establishment.
It is precisely the contrast with the terrace that makes Annie’s special. In the summer, life largely takes place outdoors, while on cooler days, the cellars offer a sheltered spot for lunch, dinner, and drinks.
In the winter, Annie’s also uses the terrace for the recurring Winter Domes: enclosed domes where guests can sit outside by the water without being completely at the mercy of the winter weather.
A Leiden meeting place
Annie’s is not just used for a lunch for two. Groups of friends, families, and larger parties also gather here for food, drinks, and events.
For larger groups, you can contact the restaurant directly to discuss the possibilities.
The location, precisely between the historic city center and the canals, makes Annie’s a place that is strongly connected to Leiden. You don't just come here for something to eat or drink, but at the same time get a significant taste of daily life on the water.
