A thin, crispy pizza from the wood-fired oven, a glass of prosecco, and a view towards the Leidse Singel. De Pizzabakkers on Herenstraat deliberately keeps the concept simple: Roman pizza takes center stage, complemented by Italian starters, desserts, and an extensive drinks menu.

The Leiden branch opened in 2018 in the former Café de Tregter. The corner building is located near the Koepoortsbrug, on the edge of the city center. On nice days, you can look out over the water from here, and those traveling by boat can even moor to pick up pizza.

Roman pizza from the wood-fired oven

The pizzas are prepared in the Roman style and baked in an Italian wood-fired oven. Characteristic is the thin crust, on which both well-known Italian combinations and changing specials are served.

In addition to classics, the menu changes regularly, including a Pizza of the Month. Vegetarians have multiple choices, and there are also fully plant-based pizza options.

Gluten-free pizza bases are available for guests who eat gluten-free. The kitchen clearly indicates that, due to the working methods in the restaurant, cross-contamination with gluten cannot be completely ruled out.

More than just pizza

You can start with antipasti or bruschetta, and after the pizza, there are Italian desserts. This way, you can turn a visit into a full dinner just as easily as simply popping in for a pizza.

The drinks menu also aligns with the Italian character. Prosecco holds a prominent place alongside wine, beer, cocktails, limoncello, soft drinks, and coffee.

With children or a larger group

De Pizzabakkers Herenstraat also explicitly targets families. Simple pizzas are available for children, and the youngest guests can get to work with playdough at the table.

Larger groups are also welcome here. The Leiden branch accommodates groups and can offer various options for a shared dinner with friends, family, or colleagues.

Pizza on the edge of the city center

The location on Herenstraat makes this branch just a little different from a pizzeria in the middle of the busiest shopping streets. You are close to the canal and the Koepoortsbrug, while the historic center starts within a short walking distance.

This makes De Pizzabakkers an accessible place for those who come primarily for a good pizza, but like to turn it into a relaxed Italian evening.
