Café Visscher is the kind of place where you can just as easily walk in for a glass of wine at the bar as for an evening of leisurely dining. Chef Arie Visscher opts for a direct cooking style in which good products, recognizable flavors, and the season are more important than unnecessary frills.
That accessible character does not mean that the cuisine is approached lightly. Café Visscher was awarded a Bib Gourmand by Michelin and is therefore among the restaurants where, according to the guide, quality and price are particularly well balanced.
A kitchen that changes with the seasons
The menu changes throughout the year with the available products. As a result, you won't automatically encounter exactly the same dishes on your next visit.
The menu features dishes for an extensive lunch as well as smaller and larger dishes for dinner. Steak tartare is one of Visscher's signature dishes. Oysters also feature in the kitchen, where classic techniques are regularly combined with flavors from outside traditional French cuisine.
For lunch, you can also choose from various bread dishes, salads, and egg dishes. Those who prefer multiple courses can opt for the chef's lunch menu.
The wine doesn't have to be complicated.
In addition to the food, wine receives a great deal of attention. The list ranges from accessible bottles that you can easily order with lunch or drinks to special wines from specific vintages.
A substantial portion of the selection is also available by the glass. This allows you to try different wines during dinner without having to order a whole bottle with every choice.
Anyone who does not know exactly what pairs well with a dish can, of course, seek advice.
Lunch, drinks, and dinner
The name Café Visscher is deliberately meant to be interpreted broadly. It is not a restaurant where you can only go in the evening with a reservation.
From late morning onwards, you can drop in for lunch, and later in the day, this naturally transitions into drinks and dinner. Furthermore, the bar area is deliberately kept partially available for spontaneous visitors. This means you can walk in for a drink or see if there is still room to eat, even without a detailed plan.
Inside, you can take a seat in the conservatory, various smaller seating areas, or at the bar. There is also a terrace when the weather is good.
Award-winning, but without a stiff atmosphere
Café Visscher has since received attention from several culinary guides. In addition to the Michelin Bib Gourmand, the restaurant received 13.5 points in the 2026 Gault&Millau guide.
However, the establishment deliberately tries not to be a formal fine-dining environment. You are not automatically required to choose a long menu here and can decide for yourself how elaborate you want to make it.
That is perhaps what best characterizes Café Visscher: serious cooking without a visit having to feel serious. Come for lunch, pull up a chair at the bar for a glass of wine, or make a whole evening of it with multiple dishes. It is all possible in the same place.
