The Hague is a city with two faces that complement each other well. In the centre, stately avenues run past the Binnenhof, where Dutch politics has been at home for centuries. Gates and fences define the landscape here: the Gevangenpoort, the Noordeinde gate. Stroll along the Lange Voorhout and you can feel the tranquility in the streets.

A few streets away begins an ordinary, lively city: shopping streets, courtyards, and a wide selection of restaurants, from the neighborhood life on the Voldersgracht to the glass-fronted shops in the Passage. This is where The Hague does its shopping and drinks its coffee. The Hofstad and the everyday city lie within walking distance of each other.

And then there is the sea. Scheveningen is within cycling distance, so a day in the city can easily end with your feet in the sand. Loculy takes you through both sides of The Hague — with walking routes along the big stories and a city guide full of places the city itself recommends.
